The Award is sponsored by the PricewaterhouseCoopers Foundation and is presented to educators with sustained and substantive contributions including educational innovation, excellence in teaching, publications, research guidance to graduate students, and significant involvement in professional and academic societies and activities.

He was chair for Scotland, Ireland and Northern England of the UK Board of Accreditation of Accounting Education Courses. Since 1983, he has taught in Australia, Brazil, England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland; and published eight textbooks, four research books, 20 book chapters and 80 refereed articles in journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Abacus, British Accounting Review, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting Historians Journal, Business History, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Information Technology, and Expert Systems with Applications.

Professor Sangster said: “It is a great honour to receive this, the highest award available to accounting academics from a jury of my peers, supported by past and present colleagues, and past students from across the world. I am very grateful to the American Accounting Association and to the PWC Foundation for their generosity and support.”

The formal presentation will take place in San Diego, California, on 2 August.
