University of Aberdeen rises in QS World University rankings

The University is up two places this year which sees it ranked 205th  in the world thanks to jumping 125 places to 270th for Employer Reputation. The University also recorded an improvement for its Academic Reputation, rising five places to 287th. Demonstrating strong internationalisation, the University has risen from 47th to 41st for the number of International Students choosing Aberdeen and is ranked 140th for International Staff numbers.    

The latest rankings see the University maintain its position of 28th in the UK. 

The University’s rise of 125 places in Employer Reputation highlights the significant progress that has been made in engaging with employers. The University continues to build upon its extensive industry links, last month launching the Centre for Energy Transition (CET). The Centre provides a focus for the University’s energy-related research with an emphasis on supporting industries in their transition to clean and renewable energy.

“It is particularly pleasing to see such an increase in our scores in the areas of International Students and Employer Reputation. We pride ourselves in being a global University and this result shows that we continue to strengthen our top 50 placing in this area. 

“The launch of the CET is an exciting development for the University as we continue to work with the energy industry to support a long-term, sustainable regional and national green recovery based on a Just Transition. The relationships we have developed with industry partners through projects like this, and the National Decommissioning Centre, are testament to our significant rise in the Employer Reputation ranking.” 

This year is the largest-ever edition of the QS World University Rankings. The rankings provide authoritative comparative analysis on the performance of the world’s top 1300 universities – 145 more than in 2021’s edition – from 97 locations. From the United Kingdom, 90 universities were ranked. 

Also released this week was the Complete University Guide 2022, in which the University is ranked 38th in the UK. The number of subjects taught at the University in the top 10 in the UK has risen from eight to ten: 

A further 16 subjects are ranked in the top 20.
