Pavlina Olivia Houdkova was drawn to the history and prestige of the University of Aberdeen but surprised herself by finding more joy in the world of motorsport engineering and racing.
As a member of Aberdeen’s TAU Racing team she took part in Formula Student where 100 university teams from around the world compete to design, manufacture and race a single seat racing car.
The 23-year-old, originally from the Czech Republic, who has graduated with an MA in Business Management, says she was surprised how much she enjoyed the experience.
“I joined the TAU Racing team in second year of my MA Business Management degree with no prior knowledge or interest in cars. After a year with the team, I realised that I was hooked and couldn't leave!
“I was extremely lucky that I got a first-hand experience of what it means to be a part of a successful and highly professional Formula Student team.
“In the last year of my studies, I also got the opportunity to co-lead the team and I am now leaving with friendships I will always treasure, experiences and opportunities I will always be grateful for and memories that will last forever.”
Pavlina says the original elements that attracted her to come to Aberdeen to study also lived up to expectations.
“The University of Aberdeen was my first choice for many reasons but most importantly for its ancient feel but innovative approaches to teaching.
“I was fascinated by the combination of historic yet modern facilities, access to world-leading academics and exceptional education in the business field.
“After four years at the University of Aberdeen, it's safe to say that I made the right decision and I wouldn't change a thing!”
