4th in UK for student satisfaction - NSS survey

The University of Aberdeen has been ranked 4th in the UK - and 2nd in Scotland - for overall student satisfaction, out of 122 UK higher education institutions, in this year's National Student Survey (NSS).

The University has continued its year-on-year rise in student satisfaction ranking in this key sector survey, which captures students’ views on a range of areas relating to their learning experience. Last year we were ranked fifth for overall student satisfaction in the UK.

This year the University is ranked in the top 10 in the UK in the following:

  • 4th in the UK for teaching – up eight places on last year
  • 5th in the UK for organisation and management - up five places
  • 9th in the UK for academic support – up five places
  • 9th in the UK for learning resources – up four places
  • 10th in the UK for student voice – up 17 places

The University is also ranked top 10 in the UK for a number of individual questions in the survey including first in the UK for 'the right opportunities to provide feedback on my course’.

Professor Ruth Taylor, Vice-Principal (Education), said:

“I am absolutely delighted that feedback from our students has generated such excellent NSS results. Our collective effort as a University across Schools and Directorates, and our partnership approach with students, has allowed us to continually improve what we do so that we can offer a great student experience.

“It’s been a tough time for our students and for our staff, but we have kept our focus on delivering great teaching on our programmes. We have also done our best to ensure our students have felt supported throughout the year and have heard and responded to their suggestions and enquiries promptly and positively.

“The challenges that we faced as a University as a result of the pandemic have brought us together as a community of staff and students, and we will continue to listen to, and support our students every step of the way.”
