Prestigious international award for graduate

Congratulations to one of our newest graduates, Jasper Friedrich, who has won a prestigious international award for an essay on nationalism.

Jasper (24) was awarded the prize for best essay in the Politics and International Relations category of the Global Undergraduate Awards.

His essay was a combination of insights from the two subjects of his joint degree – International Relations and Linguistics – from which he graduated this summer. He originally wrote it for a final year Politics course on nationalism, outlining a new theoretical approach to language and nationalism based on insights from sociolinguistics.

He will present his work at the Undergraduate Awards Global Summit in November which will, of course, be a virtual event.

He said: “Spending many hours writing essays for university, which are then only read by one lecturer, can sometimes feel a bit hollow – so it’s a great feeling to have my work acknowledged by the judges of the undergraduate awards.”

Jasper is about to start an MSc in Political Theory Research at the University of Oxford, and hopes to go on to complete a PhD in an area related to political theory.

The Global Undergraduate Awards is the world’s leading undergraduate awards programme which recognises top undergraduate work, connecting the world's brightest students and graduates early in their career.
