Fairtrade Promotion and Events
The University of Aberdeen and AUSA support a range of different events and activities with a Fairtrade presence throughout the year.
The focal point for those efforts is Fairtrade Fortnight when we provide a range of activities, events and offers to celebrate and raise the profile of Fairtrade at the University.
As well as on-campus activities, the University is pleased to support Aberdeen’s city-wide campaign. Full details of events to support that campaign are available from Aberdeen for a Fairer World.
Supporting Fairtrade
Every year, typically during February & March, sees Campus Services run a range of activities during Fairtrade Fortnight such as:
- Free tasters
- Information points
- Trolley dashes
- Fairtrade shops and cafes
- Fairtrade clothing discounts
- Film screenings and debates
- Offers on all cafe venues to receive a free chocolate cookie with all large hot drinks
As a part of a wider commitment to increasing the availability of Fairtrade products on Campus and awareness of Fairtrade within the University, Campus Services supplies Fairtrade coffee, black tea and sugar in all its delivered catering orders and eateries.
Fairtrade Wine and Fruit Juice options are also available for you to select.
Wherever you are on campus, you have the power to impact positively on the lives of people around the globe through just by buying a coffee. Together with our commitment to provide Fairtrade products across all our eateries, we strive, where possible to ensure that any packaging is biodegradable or can be recycled.
Following the success of last year, we continue to recycle the coffee grinds from the staggering 116,700 cups of coffee (in one shape or another) we serve up monthly and give it away to the keen green finger people amongst you.
