Research Fellow, Geosciences (GEO461R)

The Department of Archaeology within the School of Geosciences at the University of Aberdeen seeks to appoint a Research Fellow as part of Historic Environment Scotland funded TheCITADEL Project: Rescue- and Research-led Investigations at a Pictish Elite Centre Phase II project. The CITADEL Phase II project will complete an integrated programme of rescue- and research-led excavations of the major Pictish promontory fort at Burghead and will undertake a programme of scientific analysis on the rich animal bone remains from the site. Alongside the excavations the project will continue to deliver a package of public engagement and educational endeavors including a major fieldschool, open days and crafting workshops.

This position, a three and a half year Research Fellowship will help the Principal Investigator run the major excavations, help direct the post-excavation programme, analyse the data on coastal erosion in northern Scotland and help co-ordinate the project monograph write-up.

The successful candidate will join the vibrant department of Archaeology at the University of Aberdeen who specialize in the archaeology of the north, archaeological science, cultural heritage and community and indigenous archaeologies. 

This position, a 3.5 year Research Fellowship will help the Principal Investigator run the major excavations, help direct the post-excavation programme, analyse the data on coastal erosion in northern Scotland and help co-ordinate the project monograph write-up

The successful candidate will have; a PhD in Archaeology, detailed knowledge of the archaeology of the first millennium AD in northern Britain and its broader context, a track record of publication, fieldwork skills including supervising excavation and survey projects, digital skills including; ArcGIS, drone survey, illustration and database creation and management.

Salary will be at Grade 6, £37,099 per annum.
