Protest on campus update

Protest on campus update

Dear colleague,

You will be aware that we are in our third week of an encampment in support of Palestine on King’s College Lawn at Old Aberdeen. In my initial message I said I would keep you updated.

Since the camp set up, colleagues have engaged regularly with those in the encampment and provided support in response to some inappropriate behaviour directed at the camp during the night.

On Friday last week the Principal and I met informally with camp representatives in response to their demands. We also visited the camp yesterday for an open discussion and our conversation is continuing.

As I have already said, our campus must be a safe space for all where discrimination or harassment is not tolerated, and we are grateful for the positive and responsible interactions the camp has had with various members of the University community over the past three weeks.

I will give you a further update when appropriate.

Best wishes

Tracey
