Created by the institution's Business School, the Student Engagement Programme will give students the opportunity to undertake projects within leading organisations from a wide range of sectors throughout Aberdeen city and shire.
Students studying for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master of Science (MSc) in Management, Innovation and Change will conduct a 6 week or 10 week project placement respectively, as part of their degree programme.
CO2Deepstore, Aramark and Thorpe Molloy Recruitment are just some of the organisations offering placements through the programme. While NHS Grampian, VisitScotland, Aberdeen City Council and the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce have added input to the development of the scheme.
Currently in its pilot phase, it is hoped the programme will be rolled out across further degree programmes in the future.
The programme was launched at a breakfast this morning held in Zeste Cafe at the University, and attended by representatives from businesses involved in the programme, and teaching and support staff from the University's Business School.
Lyn Batchelor, Programme Leader MSc Management, Innovation and Change and Acting Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Aberdeen said: "Developing strong, mutually beneficially links with the local business community is a key objective for the University of Aberdeen, and the creation of The Student Engagement Programme is a prime example of this.
"The programme creates an important opportunity for students who are studying for business degrees, to enhance their academic work by allowing them to apply their knowledge in a real life business environment. It is also valuable to the organisations involved, presenting the chance to engage with bright and highly capable individuals.
"It is hoped following this pilot phase of the scheme, the programme can be rolled out further to encompass other degree programmes across the University."
