Aberdeen engineering students scoop awards

Three University of Aberdeen engineering students have been awarded prizes for their academic efforts.

Natalie Crespo - one of three BEng students to have received the Thales UK prize

Each year the University's School of Engineering asks fourth year students studying for Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degrees to present a poster on their project work.

This year, for the first time, Thales UK - a major player in the UK domestic market and one of the main suppliers to the UK Ministry of Defence - offered three £100 cash prizes to the students who presented the best poster in three engineering disciplines at the University.

The winners, awarded at a presentation ceremony held at the Fraser Noble building yesterday (Thursday 21 May) were: Ben Bird, who is studying Electrical and Electronic engineering; Natalie Crespo who is studying Mechanical Engineering; and John Marren who is studying Civil Engineering.

Professor John Watson from the University's School of Engineering said:  "The aim of the annual poster presentation event is to provide students with the experience of similar presentations which take place at conferences around the world.

"It is fantastic to receive support of the event from Thales UK this year, and offer the students these cash prizes in recognition of their achievements."
