What to do when the catalogue is not available

The catalogue is not available from around 12 midnight to 3.30am while the overnight backup runs.

For periods when the catalogue is down there is still access to our material on COPAC, and also access to e-journals via MetaLib. To help you use MetaLib, a library guide MTL002 Getting Started with MetaLib is available online or in print in the libraries.

COPAC

Part of the library's catalogue is available through COPAC which provides simultaneous access to the catalogues of the largest UK & Irish university research and national libraries such as the British Library, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh. (Please note COPAC does not contain details of personal copies or photocopies in Heavy Demand or of copies curently on order.)

Prefixes to Shelfmarks on the Library Catalogue

Shelfmarks for library materials are in general based on Dewey Decimal classification numbers. Many also have one or more sets of prefixes.

A list of these prefixes is available online and in pdf format. It also gives their meaning, and where appropriate, the location of the items.

Archives and Manuscripts

A separate online catalogue to our archives and manuscripts is also available.

Frequently asked questions

A number of FAQs covering searching, exporting information, borrower information and obtaining material are now available.

If you would like to ask a question or make a comment on the Library Catalogue click on the Feedback link located on the top tool bar of every screen once you have logged on.
