The Library and Historic Collections are at the heart of teaching, learning and research at the University of Aberdeen. Our holdings extend to more than a million items gathered over five centuries of the University's existence and belonging to collections which are important both nationally and internationally.
Library Services are located in Queen Mother Library, Taylor Library and Special Libraries and Archives in Old Aberdeen, in the Medical Library at the Foresterhill campus and in the Reid Library at the Rowett Research Institute. We welcome to the libraries students and staff from within the University, those from other educational institutions, businesses and the general public.
Our Library is multi-faceted containing not only print resources within the buildings, but also a whole virtual library comprising in excess of 300,000 full-text electronic books, more than 10,000 full-text electronic journal titles and hundreds of electronic databases.
On this page, the Welcome section introduces you to the Library and contains links to information on joining the Library, finding your way around, opening hours and your responsibilities as a library user. The section on Library Facilities links you out to more information on booking rooms for group project work, using the wireless Hotspot zones and IT services. Look up the section on Finding Information if you want to know all about using the Library Catalogue, borrowing books, identifying and accessing electronic databases and registering for our free information skills workshops. Lastly, Library staff are here to offer support and advice on using Library services and information resources. We also publish, in print and online, a comprehensive series of guides to using our resources. Look up them all up in the section on Support.
