Interview and book signing event organised by the Dickens Fellowship.

Ian Rankin, one of the foremost living Scottish novelists, is best known featuring detective Inspector Rebus. He has written some twenty-five novels, mostly set in Edinburgh. Thrilling suspense, vivid characterisation, and powerful evocation of place are among the foremost qualities of his work. His interest in the urban underworld, in crime and detection, and the strong inter-relation between character and environment place him firmly in the tradition of Dickens, most particularly in Dickens' Bleak House, which introduced the first major detective into English fiction.

At the Dickens Fellowship conference in Aberdeen (more details here), Rankin will be interviewed by BBC news presenter James Naughtie, himself a graduate of the University of Aberdeen, Chancellor at the University of Stirling, and author of several books including a spy thriller "The Madness of July".

The interview will focus on Rankin's interest in Dickens and the relation of his own fiction to Bleak House. The interview will be followed by a book signing.
