Sixth Century Campaign

New Library Atrium

For five centuries the University has been a centre of excellence in teaching, learning and discovery. We are determined that our sixth century is the most exciting and promising in our history, as we pursue our mission to be ranked among the world’s top one hundred universities.

Providing the most advanced environment for learning, research and leisure demands continual new investment in people and in infrastructure. Our Sixth Century Campaign, launched in 1999, has already helped create state-of-the-art buildings for biomedical research, new scholarships for students, conservation of our historic campus, and new facilities for students.

We have also welcomed many world-renowned professors who have come to Aberdeen from the world’s leading universities to take up new Sixth Century Chairs. This in turn has attracted outstanding scholars of all levels and disciplines who are keen to develop their careers as members of our thriving intellectual community.

The flagship project for the second phase of the campaign is a new Library for our Sixth Century. This will provide both a purpose-designed environment for 21st century learning, and a home for our precious historic collections and archives to maximise their research potential and widen access to all our communities.

Through the Sixth Century Campaign, companies, organisations, charities and individual alumni and supporters are also donating to new facilities for medical training, and for producing the sporting starts of the future, funding new scholarship schemes, conserving our historic treasures for future generations, and helping groundbreaking medical research to reach the people who need it more quickly.

See Giving to Aberdeen for more information on the many ways to become involved in helping the University achieve its ambitions, and how this will benefit our students and our communities, today and tomorrow.
